SIU INVOKES MANDATE

On Friday evening, a Haldimand OPP officer was on patrol when a motorcycle was observed travelling at a high rate of speed on Highway 6 near Caledonia. The officer was attempting to locate the motorcycle and found that it had been involved in a single vehicle collision.

Haldimand County Fire Services and paramedics also responded to the scene. The motorcycle operator was taken to hospital for treatment of serious, but non-life threatening, injuries.

The OPP has notified the province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) which has invoked its mandate. As a result the OPP will not be able to provide any further information. Any other inquiries should be directed to SIU Communications at (416) 622-2342.

MULTIPLE CHARGES FOR SPEEDING DRIVER

A 34-year-old man is facing multiple charges after police noticed a vehicle travelling above the posted speed limit on Main Street North, Hagersville, Saturday evening.

The vehicle continued north bound on Highway 6 being driven in an aggressive manner and travelling at more than double the posted 80 km/hour speed limit.

The officer stopped the vehicle on Highway 6 in Caledonia. The driver failed a field sobriety test and was subsequently arrested.

OPP has charged 34-year-old Mansoor Baig of Mississauga with impaired operation of a motor vehicle, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, racing a motor vehicle, and speeding.
