Work is already underway to give the old Subway building at the corner of Talbot and Hwy. 54, Cayuga, a whole new look. The property owner is looking to attract a retail and restaurant business there.
Council committee has approved a grant of $15,900 under its Downtown Areas Community Improvement Plan to help with construction of a new facade and signage. Banks of windows are planned for two sides of the building with stone veneer applied to the lower part of the building and stucco above.
The owner proposes to divide the building into two units, each with a barrier free entrance.
The grant is pending ratification at council Tuesday.
Councillor Craig Grice said he was glad to see someone invest in downtown.
