Andrew Bergsma is running for office because he believes he can well serve Ward 1 and Haldimand County as a whole.

“I know not everyone is happy with the current council and I am presenting myself as a capable and responsible leadership alternative,” he says.

“I intend to listen to the wishes of the residents in working to determine the best courses of action for the county. I believe that council should be accountable to the taxpaying public for their actions.”

He pinpoints the creation of the new official plan as an important item in the new term of council that will require wise leadership. “I have been on many committees and a few boards over the years, gaining leadership experience,” he says.

Born and raised in Hamilton, Bergsma married “a wonderful woman who was born in Hagersville and raised in Jarvis.” They settled in Haldimand County in 1999, where they raised their five now-grown children.

Bergsma worked in construction for ten years before switching to a career as the Audio-Visual Manager at Redeemer University College in Ancaster, where he has been for the last twelve years.
