Four youths drifted out on two paddle boards on Lake Erie near Selkirk Tuesday afternoon and struggled to get back to shore.
OPP, the OPP Marine Unit and the Joint Rescue and Co-ordination Centre (JRCC) responded as a witness reported the youths, who were not wearing life jackets, were nearly one kilometre from the shoreline and were struggling to make it back.
While emergency crews were responding they were updated that the youths had made it back onto shore and, other than being shaken up from the ordeal, they were in good health.
OPP is reminding the public to make safety a priority and always wear an approved personal flotation device or life jacket, regardless of how strong of a swimmer you are. Conditions can change so quickly on the lake that could easily put you in a dangerous situation.
