Impaired driver charged after hitting pole

Haldimand OPP has charged a 28-year-old driver with impaired driving following a single vehicle collision on Haldimand Road 9, York late Monday evening

A passer-by reported a pickup truck had struck a utility pole causing wires to come down onto the roadway. A witness further reported the vehicle had left the scene of the collision. OPP located the vehicle and the driver a short distance away and paramedics transported the driver to a local area hospital with non-life threatening injuries. 

Officers detected signs of impairment and charged 28-year-old Roger Jongerden of Caistor Centre with driving a motor vehicle while impaired, driving a motor vehicle with more than 80 milligrams of alcohol and fail to remain at the scene of a collision.
