Grand  Erie District School Board decided Monday evening to delay the opening of Mapleview Elementary, planned for this fall, until a later date, with staff bringing a report back to the Board in August with a recommended date for opening the new school.

While construction at the site is progressing well, and the entire project team has been working hard to meet the schedule, the project has experienced some delays.

This decision does not change the Board’s plan to bring together students and staff from Fairview Avenue and Grandview Central this fall. In September, students and staff from both schools will unite at the Fairview Avenue Pubic School site until construction at Mapleview Elementary is complete.

This site, in the short-term, will be able to accommodate students and staff from both schools as the EarlyON Child and Family Centre will move offsite this summer. When construction is complete, students and staff will transition over to Mapleview Elementary School.

The new school, which will feature child and family programming spaces as well as child care, is funded through a Capital Priorities Grant of approximately $10 million from the Ministry of Education.
