As of May 15, all Haldimand County Council and Council in Committee (CIC) meetings will be live-streamed through the internet. Members of the public will be able to watch meetings as-they-happen via the County website at livestream.haldimandcounty.on.ca.

Since 2001, Council meetings have been broadcast live through Cable 93 and re-run on the Saturday following the meeting. As an additional service, residents were provided with the option of purchasing a DVD of any recorded meeting. Meetings will continue to be broadcast via local cable and DVDs will still be available for purchase, however, the new live stream option provides an additional access point.

“Understandably, not everyone can attend every Council meeting. Live-streaming ensures that these meetings are as easy to access as possible and provides a new way for residents to get engaged and stay informed about important projects and discussions,” stated Mayor Hewitt. Hewitt is hopeful that live streaming will not only foster more public awareness of County happenings, but generate interest in getting involved in Council’s decision-making process.

Once a Council or Council and Committee meeting and live-stream has concluded, the recorded video will be archived and available for future viewing on the County’s YouTube Channel. The meetings will be accessible in perpetuity.
