In the wake of well over 600 speeding tickets, 39 distracted driving and 28 impaired driving tickets so far this year, Haldimand OPP has declared war on bad drivers.
For the month of August, OPP will be focusing on problematic areas in the County. They will be increasing their patrols and enforcement on local area roadways and those breaking the law under the Highway Traffic Act will be charged.
Due to a number of traffic complaints from the public, OPP has determined that King Street East in Hagersville, Kohler Road in Cayuga, and Port Maitland Road in Dunnville are problem areas.
All have displayed driving behaviours that contribute significantly to collisions and fatalities on the roadways in Haldimand County.
“People come up with all kinds of excuses for why they were speeding but the bottom line is that you need to get to your destination safely and putting your safety and the safety of others in jeopardy is not worth it,” says Constable Rod LeClair.
“Speeding puts motorists and pedestrians at risk and the consequences can be tragic.
“Be a responsible driver and make responsible decisions – don’t drink or take drugs and drive, obey the speed limit, wear your seat belt and focus 100% on driving. Your life, and the lives of others depend on it.”
