Haldimand OPP and paramedics responded to a 9-1-1 medical emergency call at a John Street, Hagersville, address, Saturday around 12.52 am. However, police were unable to locate anyone in medical distress.
While searching the area, a second 9-1-1 call was received for emergency services for another person in medical distress at a Main Street address. Again, police were unable to locate anyone who needed assistance.
Officers were able to identify the 9-1-1 caller and arrested him.
Charged with public mischief and fail to comply with probation order is 19-year-old Jacob Roche of Haldimand County. He is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice, Cayuga at a later date.
“This is a dangerous misuse of resources that not only wasted valuable time of our communication operators, it would have also slowed the response of officers attending a legitimate 9-1-1 call for someone needing help,” said Constable Ed Sanchuk, Haldimand County OPP.
