23 year old Mitchell Petta of Dunnville is facing a whole raft of charges after Haldimand OPP noticed a vehicle in violation of the Highway Traffic Act in the area of Johnson Road in Dunnville, early Saturday morning.

The officer attempted to stop the vehicle by activating emergency lights, but the driver continued onward, obeying the posted speed limits, ignoring the emergency lights and sirens. In the interest of public safety, the officer discontinued attempting to stop the vehicle.

It was strategically followed while other officers successfully deployed a tire deflation device on Rainham Road near Sweets Corners where the vehicle subsequently slowed and came to a stop.

While speaking with the driver, officers detected signs of impairment by alcohol and he was arrested. Further investigation and inspection of the vehicle determined the driver was also in violation of multiple Highway Traffic Act offences.

OPP has charged 23-year-old Mitchell Petta of Dunnville with: driving a motor vehicle while impaired, driving a motor vehicle with more than 80 milligrams of alcohol in blood, flight while pursued by a peace officer, use plates not authorized for vehicle, operate unsafe vehicle, fail to stop when signaled by a police officer, fail to surrender permit for vehicle, operate motor vehicle without insurance, improper muffler, entire plate not visible.
