January is Kindergarten Registration Month as Grand Erie prepares to welcome new group of young learners
Brantford Ont. – Grand Erie District School Board is preparing to welcome young learners to its Kindergarten classrooms this fall. Parents of children who will be four years old by the end of 2018, particularly those interested in Grand Erie’s popular French Immersion program, will want to note applicable deadlines to ensure a seamless start to their child’s schooling in September.
“Kindergarten lays the foundation for reading, writing, and math skills as well as eases the transition into Grade 1,” said Linda De Vos, Superintendent of Education with Grand Erie District School Board. “Kindergarten classrooms across Grand Erie are vibrant, welcoming spaces for our youngest learners to build positive relationships, problem-solving skills, and a strong sense of themselves in the world.”
Parents of soon-to-be Kindergarten students can visit Grand Erie’s website for more information about the registration process, including locating the school nearest to them. They will need documentation confirming their child’s Canadian citizenship and date of birth, parental and emergency contact information, doctor’s contact information, and any medical information, particularly if medication needs to be administered by school staff. Parents should plan to call or visit the school their child will be attending to complete the process.
A number of Grand Erie schools are also welcoming registrants to their French Immersion programs this month. A cap for Junior and Senior Kindergarten, as well as Grade 1, is in effect for French Immersion at all sites, and placements are determined through a randomized process. The deadline to apply for French Immersion is February 9.
