Norfolk OPP has charged a 33-year-old man after police were contacted by a citizen reporting an impaired driver on Erie Boulevard, Long Point, Sunday evening.
Responding officers were travelling southbound on Hwy. 59 to investigate the incident when a motorcycle travelling over 200 km/hr zipped between the police vehicle and another innocent motorist travelling northbound.
The officer later located the motorcycle and operator and took him into custody without incident.
Police have charged 33-year-old Matthew Robert Vansickle of South West Oxford Township with: driving while ability impaired by alcohol, driving with more than 80mgs of alcohol, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, use plate not authorized, no insurance, drive no licence.
“The officer responding to the call for service was a veteran officer who later indicated that the speed that the rider was travelling would have not only killed the operator, it would have also killed the officer responding to the call, if they had collided,” said Inspector Joseph Varga, Norfolk OPP detachment commander.
