A Norfolk man celebrated New Year’s day with a drunk driving accident.
A passer-by reported a single vehicle collision on Concession 9 at County Line Rd, Walpole, Townsend at 7:27 pm and that the driver and passenger were injured.
When OPP, fire services and paramedics arrived on scene they noticed the vehicle with front end damage in the ditch and learned that the driver and passenger had left the scene. They were located at a residence a short distance away.
While speaking with the man identified as the driver, police noted signs of alcohol consumption and administered a roadside screening test. The driver failed and he was arrested.
The vehicle was travelling west bound on Concession 9 Walpole and travelled through the intersection, colliding with a tree and into the ditch on the west side of the road. The male driver and female passenger sustained minor injuries.
OPP has charged 46-year-old Daryl Weaver of Norfolk County with: driving a motor vehicle with more than 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood, careless driving and failing to remain at the scene of a collision
