An 18-year-old man led the OPP on a merry chase following a collision on King Street, Hagersville, Monday afternoon.

A witness reported a man was possibly injured after trying to stop a suspect from stealing his vehicle and that the suspect had fled the area on foot.

OPP patrolled the area and located the man identified as the driver.

After a brief foot pursuit, the suspect entered a vehicle and attempted to flee. The vehicle was disabled and he fled on foot. He then gained entry into another vehicle at a business and drove east bound on King Street to Hunter Street and then west bound on Parkview Road, failing to stop for police.

Officers followed to an address on Fifth Line in Six Nations of the Grand River First Nation where the man left the vehicle and ran into a wooded area.

Members of the OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT) and the OPP Canine Unit attended to assist and contained the area. The man was located and arrested.

OPP has charged 18-year-old Travis Anderson of Simcoe with theft of a motor vehicle, possession of break in instruments, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, flight from a peace officer and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.

He was held for a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cayuga.

OPP are investigating whether the man is involved in other vehicle thefts in the Haldimand and Norfolk County areas.
