A 31-year-old man is facing multiple charges after a single vehicle collision on Highway 3, in Canborough.
Haldimand OPP, Haldimand County Fire Services and paramedics were called to Highway 3 near Lane Road in the early hours of Tuesday morning where a witness reported the driver was in the vehicle and appeared to be unresponsive.
The vehicle had been travelling east bound on Highway 3 when it crossed over the west bound lane, struck a road sign and collided into the ditch.
On police arrival, the driver was conscious and was assessed by paramedics who declared him uninjured. Police detected signs of impairment and he was subsequently arrested.
A search of the vehicle revealed an illicit drug – suspected heroin.
OPP has charged 31-year-old Kevin Wintonyk of Dunnville with: driving a motor vehicle while impaired; driving a motor vehicle with over 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood and possession of a Schedule I substance.
He is to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cayuga.
