Dr. Shanker Nesathurai has been appointed as the full time Acting Medical Officer of Health for Haldimand Norfolk commencing October 1.

He is Chief of Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Hamilton Health Sciences and St. Joseph’s Healthcare, Medical Director for Outpatient Rehabilitation Services at Hamilton Health Sciences and Professor and Division Director for Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, part of McMaster’s University’s Department of Medicine.

Among many other degrees, Dr. Nesathurai completed a Master’s degree in Public Health at Harvard School of Public Health in 2006.

In the interim, Dr. Elizabeth Urbantke has been appointed as the interim Acting Medical Officer of Health starting April 19.

Dr. Urbantke is currently Chief of Emergency Medicine at the Woodstock Hospital and the Investigating Coroner for Oxford County. She has previously held an Acting MOH position for Oxford County Public Health.

She is currently enrolled in the Masters of Public Health at the University of Waterloo.

Our long standing (since 2007) Acting Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Malcolm Lock, leaves April 18. He remains Medical Officer of Health for Brant County.
