The Caledonia Fire and EMS service has no concerns with service on either side of the bridge, fire chief Jason Gallagher told councillors Tuesday.
“We currently use the bypass as well as Argyle. We change our response to make for more expedience.”
Asked what would happen if the bypass were to be blocked by an accident at the same time the Argyle bridge was choked, Gallagher noted the fire services across Haldimand are linked to help each other in emergencies.
“Response time from Hagersville is 8-10 minutes, from Cayuga within 10-12 mins. The river is not really an issue for fire and EMS” he said.
He cited the recent condo fire in Hagersville. “There were eight units and we kept the damage to one. Hagersville was on scene within five minutes, Jarvis three to five minutes behind that and Caledonia eight minutes.
Council’s response? “Wow!”
