Saturday morning a number of residents were seen climbing on chunks of built-up ice along the shoreline of the Grand River in the Dunnville area putting themselves in a very dangerous situation.

Despite the reducing flood levels, the areas along the shoreline continue to be a danger and safety hazard to the public. A large amount of ice is flowing down the river and is moving well from Caledonia to Dunnville.

The Dunnville area currently has a lot of ice built up along the shoreline. A large amount of debris is also building up along the shoreline.

Ouse Street South in Cayuga remains closed.

OPP strongly recommends that everyone stay away from the shorelines at this time to prevent any incidents, and that residents stay off any ice as the rain and milder temperatures have reduced ice thickness.

Emergency service personnel will continue to monitor the water levels along the Grand River.
