The Caledonia Old Mill is finally coming down to make way for the controversial new four storey office building, touted to be built in its image. There was no question the mill needed to be demolished as it was unsafe and too expensive to be remediated, but several residents took exception to the office building concept.

They took the issue to the Ontario Municipal Board but ended up with the lawyers coming to an agreement that saw virtually no changes to the original proposal.

The mill was seen as an icon of Caledonia by some residents, but when it proved impossible to save as a part of Caledonia’s history, others felt a new building missed the mark as a representative of historical value.
