In yesterday’s mail a flyer came from Haldimand-Norfolk MPP Toby Barrett telling us that “municipalities are feeling squeezed” and “rural Ontario is struggling.”
Yet less than four months ago Haldimand Mayor Ken Hewitt wrote in the Sachem, “I am happy to say that here in Haldimand County we can make the investments in our communities like you have seen because of the strength of our balance sheet” — investments like the $12 million indoor pool that councillors Craig Grice and Bernie Corbett have started touting just before election time.
Can Barrett and Hewitt both be telling the truth?
This is an election year both provincially and municipally. Is it too much to hope for some fresh candidates who can deliver honesty and good government instead of self-serving statements and transparent attempts to buy our votes with our own money?
